Tips for Riding in Koh Phangan

• Steep hill technique

  The roads into Haad Rin and up to Thong Nai Pan include very steep climbs and descents. Use engine braking on the way down (ease off the throttle on automatics, never coast in neutral), take switchbacks wide, and never rely on the front brake alone on a wet surface.

• Unpaved tracks

  Several access roads - especially into Bottle Beach, parts of Thong Nai Pan, and interior jungle routes - are unpaved gravel or dirt. A Honda ADV 160 handles these comfortably; standard scooters are fine on the Thong Sala-Srithanu-Haad Yao coastal corridor but struggle on the rougher tracks.
