Klaus Weber

Klaus completed a three-year Kfz-Mechatroniker apprenticeship at the Robert Bosch Berufsschule in Stuttgart, then a Bachelor's in Automotive Engineering at TU München in 2010. He earned Honda Technician Level 3 certification at Honda Motor Europe's training centre in Offenbach in 2013, followed by Yamaha Master Technician certification at the Yamaha Motor Deutschland technical centre in Neuss in 2016. After three years on the workshop floor at a Honda Wing dealer in Munich's Schwabing district, he relocated to Nepal in 2014 to specialise in the segment that had quietly become his focus: the tourist rental fleet. For the last 9+ years he ran a workshop in Kathmandu's Thamel district that contracted to 14 rental operators across Thamel, Lazimpat, Patan, and Boudha, with seasonal partners in Pokhara and Chitwan. He relocated to Bangkok in 2024 to extend the same protocol to the Thai rental market.

His hands-on rental record stands at over 5,000 scooters inspected and 200+ Yamaha NMAX 155 CVT rebuilds, all logged in a pre-rental inspection checklist now used by 12 of his Kathmandu client shops as their standard handover protocol and currently being rolled out across his first Thai partner workshops. He has consulted on three Honda Asia regional recall campaigns - the 2019 Click 125 wiring harness revision, the 2021 PCX 150 fuel-pump update, and the 2023 ADV 160 dust-seal recall. He presents annually at the Nepal Tourism Board's rental-safety forum and at the Bangkok International Motor Show on rental-segment maintenance, and his March 2022 piece in Motorcycle Trader on monsoon-season CVT belt failure is now standard reading for new rental-shop apprentices from Pokhara to Bangkok.

Beyond the workshop he is a daily rider and committed tourer - he owns a 2023 Yamaha NMAX 155 ABS (over 150,000 km, the daily Bangkok hack) and a Honda ADV 160 used for monthly Bangkok-suburb commuting from his Sukhumvit base. Every three months he takes a two-week holiday tour to one of the other destinations Thai Bike covers - Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, or Koh Phangan - rotating the city each quarter. He deliberately picks up the partner shop's actual rental scooter on arrival rather than ride in on his own bike, so each trip surfaces what that city's roads do to a fleet bike: Phuket coastal-strip salt corrosion, Pattaya Motorway 7 maxi-scooter envelope wear, Chiang Mai monsoon-season Mae Hong Son CVT belt life, Koh Samui island heat cycling, and Koh Phangan polished-concrete hill-climb brake wear. That rotation is how he tests every recommendation he writes for Thai Bike against the country's full geographic mix - workshop bench plus saddle time, not one or the other, and Bangkok bench data validated against Phangan failure modes.
